Bill of the bilingual blog Merde in France has moved to the group blog No Pasarán! (Spanish for "they shall not pass!"). On today's anniversary of D-day, the blog quotes a 1967 tune by French chansonnier Michel Sardou:
If the Yankees weren't there
You'd all be in [Greater] Germany
Talking of G-d know what
Saluting G-d knows whomOf course, the years have passed
The rifles have changed hands
Is this the season to forget
That one day we needed them?A kid come from Georgia
Who didn't owe you a damn
Came to die in Normandy
One morning when you weren't aroundOf course, the years have passed
We've become friends
In friendship, we say of those who were shot
That they died for nothingIf the Yankees weren't there
You'd all be in [Greater] Germany
Talking of G-d knows what
Saluting G-d knows whom
Did a quick search for it and Google came up with this link: http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:8J7d_vPUoscJ:forums.wildbillguarnere.com/index.php%3Fshowtopic%3D1348%26st%3D75+d-day+%22Michel+Sardou%22&hl=en
Imagine that, in 1967 ... .
Let us indeed hope that " .. there will always be a man or a woman to remember them .. ."
